Tridihexethyl Chloride falls under ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group Betel Nut interacts with.
Some anticholinergic drugs include atropine, benztropine (Cogentin), biperiden (Akineton), procyclidine (Kemadrin), and trihexyphenidyl (Artane). Avoid concomitant use.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Tridihexethyl chloride (Pathilon) works by blocking acetylcholine, the chemical messenger that drives things like stomach acid, gut cramping, and saliva. Betel nut pulls in the opposite direction. Its active compound, arecoline, acts somewhat like acetylcholine and may also slow the enzyme that normally breaks acetylcholine down, leaving more of it around. So the two essentially work against each other.
In practice, that tug-of-war could blunt how well your Pathilon controls cramping or overactive stomach symptoms, and it might leave you with side effects from both. Keep in mind this is mostly theoretical, based on lab and animal data plus a single report with a different drug, so the real-world effect isn't proven. Betel nut also carries its own serious risks and is best avoided. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
