Bowen Technique and Progesterone

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Progesterone and Bowen Technique in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — research on Bowen Technique alongside specific medications may be limited.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Bowen Technique at all — not against Progesterone, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

Bowen Technique is a treatment rather than something you take. Tell whoever provides it which medicines you use, and ask your prescriber whether it is appropriate for your health and treatment. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Bowen Technique safety at a glance

Bowen Technique overall Use caution Generally low-risk when done by a trained practitioner, but it should not replace proven medical care.
Pregnancy Use caution Discuss with your doctor first and choose a practitioner experienced with pregnancy.
Breastfeeding Use caution No specific concerns are known, but check with your healthcare provider first.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

What Progesterone’s Own FDA Label Lists

This is not an interaction — none of it involves Bowen Technique. These are the most notable effects listed in the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Progesterone’s own FDA label, for the medication by itself. Knowing the drug’s own list makes it easier to work out the likely cause if something new turns up while you have Bowen Technique and take the medicine. 2 of them are worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • Chest pain Worth acting on
  • Low mood Worth acting on
  • Breast tenderness
  • Flushing
  • Bloating or gas
  • Sweating
  • Joint pain
  • Constipation
  • Swelling
  • Dizziness mentioned in 4.2% of FDA reports for Progesterone

Showing the 10 most notable of 15 label-listed effects — ranked by how unusual each one is across medicines generally, with serious effects weighted up.

From the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of the FDA label for Progesterone. Read the label on DailyMed › Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 22,512 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Progesterone that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Bowen Technique’s licensed record lists no adverse effects our clinical vocabulary could match, so there is no Bowen Technique side to compare — that is a limit of the record, not a statement that Bowen Technique has no side effects.

These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. See Every Supplement That Interacts With Progesterone

This page covers Bowen Technique only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Progesterone page lists 126 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

The most serious there right now: Grapefruit (major), St. John's Wort (major), Acacia Rigidula (moderate), Adrafinil (moderate) and African Wild Potato (moderate).

By severity: 2 major · 91 moderate · 33 minor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Progesterone page

“Many people take progesterone (Milprosa) to support a pregnancy during fertility treatment or as part of hormone therapy, which is exactly when St. John's wort for mood or a morning glass of grapefruit juice can feel harmless.”

About Bowen Technique

What is Bowen Technique?

  • Back and neck pain
  • Muscle tension and stiffness
  • Stress and relaxation
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Sports injuries
  • General aches and pains

Bowen Technique is a gentle, hands-on bodywork therapy, not a supplement or herb, that uses light rolling moves over muscles and soft tissue. It is generally considered low-risk and relaxing, but high-quality scientific evidence that it treats any specific condition is limited. If you have a medical problem, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before relying on it.

Not applicable (manual bodywork therapy) · Hands-on therapy sessions performed by a trained practitioner

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Bowen Technique is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Bowen Technique record says about it on its own.

Bowen Technique: dosing

Because Bowen Technique is a hands-on therapy rather than a product you take, there is no standard dose. Treatment is given in sessions, and the number and spacing of sessions vary by practitioner and by the reason for treatment.Follow the guidance of a qualified, trained Bowen practitioner.
