Here's the simple version. Peri-Colace contains casanthranol, which is a stimulant that gets your bowel moving, plus docusate, a stool softener. Butternut bark has its own gentle stimulant laxative action thanks to compounds like juglone. So you're really doubling up on the same kind of effect.

When two laxatives push in the same direction, you can lose more water and key minerals (like potassium and sodium) than you intend. That can mean cramping, watery diarrhea, dehydration, and feeling weak or lightheaded. To be fair, this concern is theoretical and based mostly on how these things work, not on strong studies. Still, I'd keep it simple and not stack them. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.
