Calanus Oil and Lixisenatide

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Lixisenatide and Calanus Oil in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Calanus Oil at all — not against Lixisenatide, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Calanus Oil — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We haven’t matched Lixisenatide to its FDA label in our system yet, so we can’t compare its own side-effect list here — the leaflet that comes with your prescription is the authoritative list for Lixisenatide.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Lixisenatide page

“Lixisenatide (Adlyxin) is injected to lower blood sugar in type 2 diabetes, and nearly everything on this page acts on blood sugar too, which is why I would treat the list with genuine care rather than a shrug. About Calanus Oil

What is Calanus Oil?

  • Heart and metabolic health
  • Source of omega-3 fatty acids
  • Anti-inflammatory support
  • General wellness
  • Exercise and weight management

Calanus oil is a marine omega-3 oil made from a small Arctic zooplankton (Calanus finmarchicus). It is rich in omega-3 fatty acids bound in a unique 'wax ester' form, and early research suggests possible benefits for metabolic and heart health, but the evidence is still preliminary. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have a seafood allergy or are pregnant.

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Calanus Oil is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Calanus Oil record says about it on its own.

Calanus Oil: dosing

There is no official, standardized dose of calanus oil. Studies have used a fairly small daily amount, often just a gram or two per day, but products and concentrations vary. The best approach is to follow the dose printed on the product label and not exceed it.

About Lixisenatide Injection

What Is Lixisenatide Injection Used For?

Brand name: Adlyxin

  • Lixisenatide injection is used along with diet and exercise to treat type 2 diabetes (condition in which the body does not use insulin normally and therefore cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood). Lixisenatide injection is not used to treat type 1 diabetes (condition in which the body does not produce insulin and therefore cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood). Lixisenatide is not used instead of insulin to treat people with diabetes who need insulin. Lixisenatide injection is in a class of medications called incretin mimetics. It works by stimulating the pancreas to secrete insulin when blood sugar levels are high. Insulin helps move sugar from the blood into other body tissues where it is used for energy. Lixisenatide injection also slows the emptying of the stomach and causes a decrease in appetite.

  • Over time, people who have diabetes and high blood sugar can develop serious or life-threatening complications, including heart disease, stroke, kidney problems, nerve damage, and eye problems. Using medication(s), making lifestyle changes (e.g., diet, exercise, quitting smoking), and regularly checking your blood sugar may help to manage your diabetes and improve your health. This therapy may also decrease your chances of having a heart attack, stroke, or other diabetes-related complications such as kidney failure, nerve damage (numb, cold legs or feet; decreased sexual ability in men and women), eye problems, including changes or loss of vision, or gum disease. Your doctor and other healthcare providers will talk to you about the best way to manage your diabetes.

  • Your doctor or pharmacist will give you the manufacturer's patient information sheet (Medication Guide) when you begin treatment with lixisenatide injection and each time you refill your prescription. Read the information carefully and ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions. You can also visit the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website (http://www.fda.gov/Drugs/DrugSafety/ucm085729.htm) to obtain the Medication Guide.
