Here's the situation with Rituxan Hycela (rituximab with hyaluronidase). This is a powerful antibody treatment your oncology team uses to target and clear out cancerous white blood cells. Catechu is rich in tannins and plant compounds that, in lab and animal studies, seem to nudge the immune system. The worry on paper is that catechu's immune-tinkering could push against what your cancer therapy is trying to do.

I want to be honest with you: this is a theoretical concern only, based on test-tube and animal work, not on real people taking both together. So it's not a reason to panic. But because rituximab is serious cancer treatment, I'd keep things simple and clear it with your oncologist or pharmacist before adding any catechu supplement.

Catechu is an astringent extract made from the heartwood of the Acacia (Senegalia) catechu tree, used traditionally for mouth sores, sore throat, diarrhea, and minor skin problems. Strong human evidence is lacking for most uses, so it should be viewed as a traditional remedy rather than a proven treatment. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking other medicines.

What Is Rituximab and Hyaluronidase Human Injection Used For?

Brand name: Rituxan Hycela

Rituxan Hycela is used to treat three types of blood cancer in adults: follicular lymphoma (FL), diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Depending on the cancer type and stage, it may be given alone or alongside chemotherapy.

It is not approved for any non-cancer condition. Importantly, patients must first receive at least one full dose of rituximab by IV infusion before switching to this under-the-skin injection form.
