Here's the situation with Catechu and Rituximab (Rituxan). Rituximab isn't a pill your body has to activate, and it isn't cleared by liver enzymes the way many drugs are. It's an antibody infusion that works by quieting down part of your immune system (specifically your B-cells). The concern here is different: lab and animal studies hint that catechu may have its own effects on the immune system, so in theory it could tug against what rituximab is trying to do.

I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is. This is a theoretical flag based on test-tube and animal work, not real cases in people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since rituximab is serious therapy, please run any catechu supplement past your oncologist, rheumatologist, or pharmacist first.

Catechu is an astringent extract made from the heartwood of the Acacia (Senegalia) catechu tree, used traditionally for mouth sores, sore throat, diarrhea, and minor skin problems. Strong human evidence is lacking for most uses, so it should be viewed as a traditional remedy rather than a proven treatment. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking other medicines.

What Is Rituximab Injection Used For?

Brand name: Rituxan

Rituximab is used to treat a range of blood cancers and immune-driven diseases. In cancer care, it targets certain types of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma (NHL) and Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) — both in adults and, for some lymphomas, in children as young as 6 months old.

Beyond cancer, rituximab is also approved for moderately-to-severely active Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) in adults who haven't responded well to other treatments, as well as for two rare inflammatory blood vessel diseases — Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (GPA) and Microscopic Polyangiitis (MPA) — and for a serious skin blistering condition called Pemphigus Vulgaris (PV).
