Drug & supplement interaction

Chymotrypsin + Doravirine

Doravirine brand name: Pifeltro.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Chymotrypsin and Doravirine in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.

Chymotrypsin and Doravirine

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Doravirine and Chymotrypsin in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Chymotrypsin at all — not against Doravirine, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Chymotrypsin safety at a glance

Chymotrypsin overall Use caution Generally tolerated for short-term use, but quality evidence is limited and some people may react to this animal-derived enzyme.
Pregnancy Avoid There is not enough safety information, so it is best to avoid use during pregnancy.
Breastfeeding Avoid Safety while breastfeeding has not been established, so avoiding it is the safer choice.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

No Interaction Found — But Data Suggests Chymotrypsin and Doravirine May Share a Side Effect

This is not an interaction. Neither one changes how your body handles the other, and nothing here says they react together. What our sources do show is that each has separately been linked to the effects below — so taking both can make those effects more likely to turn up, and harder to pin on one or the other if they do. One of them is worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

“There is currently a limited amount of information available about the adverse effects of chymotrypsin. Orally, hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis, have been reported (9). When injected into the eye, chymotrypsin has been reported to cause increased intraocular pressure and uveitis (9,509).”

Reported for Chymotrypsin but not commonly for Doravirine: a severe allergic reaction, hives, shortness of breath and swelling.

Effects for Doravirine come from the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of its FDA label; effects for Chymotrypsin come from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record, quoted above. About Chymotrypsin

What is Chymotrypsin?

  • Swelling and inflammation after injury or surgery
  • Wound healing
  • Cataract surgery (intracapsular)
  • Sports injuries and sprains
  • Easing soreness and bruising

Chymotrypsin is a protein-digesting (proteolytic) enzyme, usually taken from the pancreas of cattle or pigs, that is mainly used to help reduce swelling and support healing after injury or surgery. The evidence for many of these uses is limited or low quality, so it should not replace standard care. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a bleeding or clotting condition.

Enzyme derived from animal (typically bovine or porcine) pancreas · Oral tablets (often enteric-coated), topical preparations, injectable forms (in clinical settings)

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Chymotrypsin is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Chymotrypsin record says about it on its own.

Chymotrypsin: dosing

There is no well-established standard dose of chymotrypsin for supplement use. Strengths vary widely between products, and it is often combined with other enzymes such as trypsin. The best approach is to follow the directions on the product label and not exceed the recommended amount.

About Doravirine

What Is Doravirine Used For?

Brand name: Pifeltro

Pifeltro (doravirine) is used to treat HIV-1 infection in adults and in children and adolescents who weigh at least 35 kg (about 77 lbs). It is always used in combination with other antiretroviral medicines — never on its own.

Pifeltro is approved for two groups: people who have never taken HIV treatment before, and people who are already virologically suppressed (meaning HIV is undetectable in their blood) on a stable regimen and need to switch, provided they have no history of treatment failure or known resistance to doravirine.
