CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Tasimelteon
Tasimelteon falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Corn Poppy interacts with.
Animal research suggests that corn poppy leaf extract has sedative effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: tasimelteon (Hetlioz) is a sleep medication that nudges your body's natural sleep signals, so its main job is to help you wind down at night. Corn poppy hasn't been studied much in people, but in animals its leaf extract appeared to have a mild calming, sleepy effect. Put the two together and the worry is just additive drowsiness.
So in theory, pairing them could leave you groggier, drowsier, or more sluggish the next morning than tasimelteon alone would. Keep in mind this is a theoretical concern based on animal data, not strong human evidence, so it may not amount to much. Even so, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

About Corn Poppy
What is Corn Poppy?
- Cough and sore throat
- Sleep and restlessness
- Mild pain
- Anxiety and nervousness
- Digestive complaints
Corn poppy is a red-flowered plant traditionally used in teas and syrups for cough, sleep, and mild pain. Solid human research is very limited, so its benefits are not well proven, and unlike its relative the opium poppy, it contains only small amounts of weak alkaloids.
