No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Cypress and Ursodiol in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Cypress and Ursodiol

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Ursodiol and Cypress in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Cypress safety at a glance

Cypress overall Use caution Often used externally or in aromatherapy; the essential oil should not be swallowed and human safety data are limited.
Pregnancy Avoid Not enough safety information, so it is best to avoid use during pregnancy.
Breastfeeding Avoid Not enough safety information, so it is best to avoid use while breastfeeding.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Ursodiol

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Ursodiol is filed under a single classification — oral drugs. Cypress has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs (moderate) — and none of Ursodiol’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

What Cypress Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Ursodiol. It is the side-effect record for Cypress on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add Cypress, this list is the first place to look.

  • A skin rash Additional detail

“Airborne cypress pollen is a common cause of allergy-related respiratory and ocular symptoms in some people. A case of allergic contact dermatitis to the resin-impregnated leaves of a cypress tree has occurred in a patient with a history of cutaneous reactions to adhesive bandages, likely due to a cross-sensitivity with colophonium.”

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Cypress — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Ursodiol’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Ursodiol column appears here.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Ursodiol page

“Ursodiol (Actigall) has to be absorbed to do its job, whether that job is dissolving gallstones or protecting a liver with primary biliary cholangitis, and all 17 supplements on this page can interfere with exactly that. I'd treat these pairings with genuine care.”

About Cypress

What is Cypress?

  • Circulation and varicose veins
  • Coughs and respiratory complaints
  • Excess sweating
  • Skin and minor wounds
  • Aromatherapy for relaxation

Cypress comes from the Mediterranean cypress tree and is most often used as an essential oil in aromatherapy or skin care, and traditionally for circulation and respiratory complaints. High-quality human evidence for these uses is very limited, so it should not replace proven treatments. The essential oil is for external use only and should be diluted, and you should talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it.

Cupressus sempervirens · Cupressaceae · Cones (galbuli), leaves/needles, and essential oil · Essential oil, extracts, capsules, and dried plant material

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Cypress is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Cypress record says about it on its own.

Cypress: dosing

There is no standardized or well-established dose for cypress. Products vary widely in strength and form, so the right amount depends on how it is being used. For essential oil used on the skin, it should always be diluted in a carrier oil rather than applied straight. Do not take cypress essential oil by mouth.
