Aripiprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group English Ivy interacts with.

Theoretically, English ivy might increase the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro research shows that English ivy inhibits CYP2D6 enzymes. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to help break down aripiprazole. In lab (test tube) studies, English ivy appears to slow that enzyme down a bit. If that happened in a real person, aripiprazole could clear more slowly and build up, which might mean more of its usual side effects like drowsiness, restlessness or feeling jittery, lightheadedness, or mild tremor.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. This is theoretical, based only on laboratory work, and it has not actually been seen in people. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but since aripiprazole is a long-acting medication, it's worth a quick check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding an ivy cough product.
