Paliperidone falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Glucomannan interacts with.

Theoretically, glucomannan may decrease absorption of drugs taken orally.
Due to its viscosity and bulking effects, there is concern that glucomannan can decrease the absorption of oral drugs. A small clinical study in healthy volunteers shows that taking glyburide 2.5 mg plus glucomannan 3.9 grams with breakfast reduces plasma levels of glyburide when compared with breakfast and glyburide alone. In addition, animal research demonstrates this effect on amoxicillin, but shows increased absorption of metronidazole. This mouse model also demonstrates that metronidazole elimination is prolonged, but amoxicillin elimination is enhanced by 38%; glucomannan may also affect the distribution of some drugs. To avoid changes in absorption, take glucomannan 30-60 minutes after taking oral drugs.

Here's the simple version: glucomannan is a thick, gel-forming fiber, and when it's sitting in your stomach and gut alongside your paliperidone (Invega) tablet, it can grab onto the medicine and slow down how much of it gets absorbed into your bloodstream. With an antipsychotic like paliperidone, that could mean you absorb a little less than usual, and over time your symptoms might not stay as well controlled.

This is mostly a timing problem, and the fix is usually easy. A reasonable approach is to take your paliperidone first, then wait 30 to 60 minutes before taking glucomannan, so the fiber isn't competing with your dose. The evidence here is moderate and partly theoretical, so don't panic, but please run your routine past your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Glucomannan is a soluble fiber from the konjac root that swells into a gel in your stomach, which may help with mild weight loss, constipation, and modestly lowering cholesterol. What Is Paliperidone Used For?

Brand name: Invega

Paliperidone treats schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder. The extended-release tablets (Invega and generic paliperidone) are approved for schizophrenia in adults and adolescents ages 12–17, and for schizoaffective disorder in adults.

Several injectable formulations are also available, each with specific roles. Invega Sustenna and Erzofri extended-release are once-monthly injections approved for schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder in adults. Invega Trinza is a once-every-3-month injection for schizophrenia in adults who have already been stabilized on a once-monthly paliperidone palmitate injection for at least four months. Invega Hafyera is a once-every-6-month injection for schizophrenia in adults already stabilized on a once-monthly or every-3-month paliperidone palmitate injection.
