SEROTONERGIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Rizatriptan
Rizatriptan falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Hawaiian Baby Woodrose interacts with.
Hawaiian baby woodrose contains chemicals which might increase serotonin levels. Combining serotonergic drugs with Hawaiian baby woodrose might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects including serotonin syndrome and cerebral vasoconstrictive disorders.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the concern with pairing these two. Rizatriptan works by turning up activity at serotonin receptors to shut down a migraine. Hawaiian Baby Woodrose seeds also push on serotonin because of their LSD-like ergoline compounds. Stack two serotonin-boosting things together and you raise the odds of serotonin syndrome, which can look like agitation, a racing heart, sweating, shivering, muscle twitching, or confusion. Both also tend to tighten blood vessels, so combining them could worsen that narrowing effect.
Keep in mind this warning is theoretical, based on how these substances behave rather than reported cases. Still, given the unpredictable and risky nature of these seeds, I would not combine them. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor first.
