ORAL DRUGS
Why this applies to Aminobenzoate Potassium
Aminobenzoate Potassium falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Karaya Gum interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version. Karaya gum is a bulk-forming fiber that swells into a gel in your gut. When you swallow it close to a dose of Potaba (aminobenzoate potassium), that gel can trap some of the medicine and slow or reduce how much gets absorbed. Potaba is usually taken in fairly large, frequent doses for conditions like scleroderma or Peyronie's disease, so steady absorption matters for it to do its job.
The good news is this concern is theoretical, based on how fiber behaves rather than real-world reports, and it's rated as minor. A practical fix is to space them out: take your Potaba first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before the karaya gum. Always drink plenty of water, and check with your pharmacist if you're unsure.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Aminobenzoate Potassium page
“All 17 supplements flagged against aminobenzoate potassium (Potaba) share one mechanism: they change how much of the drug your gut actually absorbs. I would take this one seriously, because Potaba only works when you keep steady levels in your body, and that already requires large doses several times a day.”

About Karaya Gum
What is Karaya Gum?
- Constipation (bulk-forming laxative)
- Appetite and weight management (bulking agent)
- Dental adhesive/denture fixative
- Skin barrier for ostomy appliances
- Food thickening and stabilizing
Karaya gum is a natural plant gum from the Sterculia tree that is mostly used as a bulk-forming laxative and as a thickener or adhesive in food, dental, and ostomy products. As a fiber-type laxative it may help with occasional constipation, but high-quality evidence is limited, and it should be taken with plenty of water to avoid choking or blockage. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have swallowing problems or bowel conditions.
