Here's the simple version: karaya gum is a bulky fiber that swells into a gel in your gut. When you swallow it close to a pill like diclofenac, that gel can grab onto some of the medicine and slow or slightly change how much gets absorbed. This isn't about how your body breaks diclofenac down, it's just a physical bumping-into-each-other in the digestive tract.

Honestly, this is a minor, mostly theoretical concern based on how fiber laxatives behave, not on strong studies with diclofenac specifically. To stay safe and keep your pain relief steady, take your diclofenac first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before the karaya gum. If you have questions, your pharmacist is happy to help you space them out.

As a fiber-type laxative it may help with occasional constipation, but high-quality evidence is limited, and it should be taken with plenty of water to avoid choking or blockage. Diclofenac sodium topical gel is used to treat actinic keratoses (AK) — rough, scaly skin patches that form after years of sun exposure. These patches are considered precancerous, meaning they can develop into skin cancer if left untreated.

This is a topical gel, meaning it is applied directly to the skin over the affected area rather than taken by mouth. It belongs to the NSAID (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug) family.
