Here's something a little funny about this pair: both karaya gum and Lactitol (Pizensy) are working on the same problem, which is occasional constipation. Karaya gum is a bulk-forming fiber that soaks up water and swells into a gel, while Lactitol pulls water into your bowel to soften the stool. Taking them together isn't dangerous, but the gel from karaya gum could physically slow or change how much Lactitol your body absorbs.

This is a theoretical concern based on how these products behave, not something proven in studies, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. To keep things predictable, a simple fix is to space them out: take your Lactitol first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before the karaya gum. If you're using both regularly, check in with your pharmacist so you're not overdoing the laxative effect.

Karaya gum is a natural plant gum from the Sterculia tree that is mostly used as a bulk-forming laxative and as a thickener or adhesive in food, dental, and ostomy products. As a fiber-type laxative it may help with occasional constipation, but high-quality evidence is limited, and it should be taken with plenty of water to avoid choking or blockage. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have swallowing problems or bowel conditions.
