Here's the thing to know about pairing karaya gum with nabilone (Cesamet). Because karaya gum is a bulk-forming fiber that swells into a gel in your gut, it can grab onto pills as they pass through and slightly change how much medicine your body actually absorbs. With nabilone, that could mean you absorb a little more, a little less, or no real change at all. The direction isn't predictable.

If absorption drops, nabilone might not control your chemo-related nausea and vomiting as well. If it rises, you could feel more of its usual effects like drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, or a foggy, lightheaded feeling. Honestly, this is a theoretical concern based on how fiber behaves, not strong proof. A simple fix is spacing them out: take nabilone first, then your karaya gum 30 to 60 minutes later. Check with your pharmacist if you're unsure.

Karaya gum is a natural plant gum from the Sterculia tree that is mostly used as a bulk-forming laxative and as a thickener or adhesive in food, dental, and ostomy products. As a fiber-type laxative it may help with occasional constipation, but high-quality evidence is limited, and it should be taken with plenty of water to avoid choking or blockage. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have swallowing problems or bowel conditions.

Cesamet (nabilone) capsules are used to treat nausea and vomiting related to cancer chemotherapy. It is only intended for patients who have not gotten adequate relief from standard anti-nausea treatments.

Because nabilone can cause significant mental and mood effects, it is meant to be used with close supervision — not as a first-choice anti-nausea drug and not on an as-needed basis.
