Here's the thing about pairing karaya gum with plicamycin: it's mostly a non-issue in practice. Plicamycin (Mithracin) is given as an intravenous infusion in a hospital or clinic setting, not as a pill you swallow. Because karaya gum's main concern is that its swelling fiber can grab onto medications in your gut and shift how much gets absorbed, that worry really only applies to drugs you take by mouth.

Since plicamycin goes straight into your veins, this bulk-forming laxative shouldn't change how it works. This caution is theoretical and tied to oral medicines anyway. Still, if you're taking any other pills along with karaya gum, a good habit is to space them at least 30 to 60 minutes apart, and check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Karaya gum is a natural plant gum from the Sterculia tree that is mostly used as a bulk-forming laxative and as a thickener or adhesive in food, dental, and ostomy products. As a fiber-type laxative it may help with occasional constipation, but high-quality evidence is limited, and it should be taken with plenty of water to avoid choking or blockage. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have swallowing problems or bowel conditions.
