Here's something interesting about pairing these two: karaya gum is a bulky fiber that swells into a gel in your gut, and that gel can grab onto pills sitting nearby. With prucalopride, the concern is purely about absorption timing. The fiber could trap some of the medicine and keep your body from soaking up the full dose, which might make it work a little less well for your constipation. It could also have no effect at all.

The good news is this is theoretical, based on how fiber laxatives behave in general, and it's rated as minor. Prucalopride isn't a prodrug, so we're only talking about how much gets absorbed, not how it gets activated. To play it safe, simple spacing helps: take your prucalopride first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before the karaya gum. A quick check with your pharmacist can confirm what's best for you.

Karaya gum is a natural plant gum from the Sterculia tree that is mostly used as a bulk-forming laxative and as a thickener or adhesive in food, dental, and ostomy products. As a fiber-type laxative it may help with occasional constipation, but high-quality evidence is limited, and it should be taken with plenty of water to avoid choking or blockage. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have swallowing problems or bowel conditions.

About Prucalopride

What Is Prucalopride Used For?

Brand names: Resotran, Resolor, Motegrity

Prucalopride tablets — sold under the brand name Motegrity and also available as generic prucalopride and prucalopride succinate — are indicated for the treatment of chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC) in adults. CIC is ongoing constipation with no identified underlying cause.

This indication applies to all approved oral tablet forms of prucalopride. It is not approved for use in children; a study in pediatric patients was stopped early because the medication did not show effectiveness in that age group.
