Here's some good news that should put your mind at ease. Trypan Blue (VisionBlue) is not a pill you swallow. It's a sterile dye that an eye surgeon applies directly inside the eye during cataract or other eye surgery to stain and highlight tissue. Because it never travels through your stomach or intestines, a bulk-forming fiber like karaya gum can't bind to it or change how much your body absorbs.

The interaction on file is a general, theoretical caution about fiber laxatives slowing or altering the absorption of oral medicines. Since Trypan Blue isn't taken by mouth, that concern simply doesn't apply here. If you do take any oral medications, a smart habit is to take them about 30 to 60 minutes before your karaya gum. When in doubt, your pharmacist is happy to double-check.

Karaya gum is a natural plant gum from the Sterculia tree that is mostly used as a bulk-forming laxative and as a thickener or adhesive in food, dental, and ostomy products. As a fiber-type laxative it may help with occasional constipation, but high-quality evidence is limited, and it should be taken with plenty of water to avoid choking or blockage. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have swallowing problems or bowel conditions.
