What Is Uridine Triacetate Used For?

Brand names: Xuriden, Vistogard

Uridine triacetate is available as two different products for two distinct uses. Vistogard is used for emergency treatment after an overdose of the chemotherapy drugs fluorouracil or capecitabine — or when someone develops severe, early, or life-threatening side effects from those drugs (such as heart or nervous system problems, severe digestive reactions, or a dangerous drop in white blood cells) within 96 hours of their last dose.

Xuriden is used to treat hereditary orotic aciduria, a rare inherited condition in which the body cannot make enough of a building block called uridine, causing a buildup of orotic acid and problems with blood cell production and other body functions. Both products are approved for adults and children.
