ORAL DRUGS
Why this applies to nilotinib
nilotinib falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Marshmallow interacts with.
Marshmallow contains mucilage which can affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take marshmallow 30-60 minutes after oral medications.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with marshmallow and your nilotinib (Tasigna). Marshmallow root is packed with mucilage, a slippery, gel-like fiber. The concern is mostly a theoretical one: that gel could coat your stomach and gut and slow down how well a pill is absorbed. If less nilotinib gets into your bloodstream, it may simply not work as strongly against your leukemia, and that matters with a cancer medicine.
This is rated minor and is based on pharmacology rather than real-world reports, so don't panic. A simple fix is timing. Take your nilotinib first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before having marshmallow. Since nilotinib already has strict food and timing rules, please run any supplement past your pharmacist or oncologist before adding it.

About Marshmallow
What is Marshmallow?
- Cough and sore throat
- Dry mouth and throat irritation
- Digestive upset and heartburn
- Skin irritation
- Soothing inflamed tissue
Marshmallow root is a traditional herb rich in soothing, gel-like fibers called mucilage, which is why it has long been used for coughs, sore throats, and stomach irritation.
