Maraviroc falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Oregon Grape interacts with.

Theoretically, Oregon grape might increase serum levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of Oregon grape, moderately inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4).

Here's the gist with maraviroc (Selzentry): your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break it down and clear it out. Oregon grape contains berberine, which lab studies and some early human data suggest can slow that enzyme down. If the enzyme works slower, maraviroc may clear less efficiently and build up a bit in your blood, which could mean stronger effects and more side effects like dizziness, lightheadedness when standing, headache, belly upset, or feeling unusually tired.

I want to be honest that this is theoretical, based mostly on how berberine behaves in the lab, not on strong studies with maraviroc itself. Concentrated supplement doses are more of a concern than tiny culinary amounts. Since maraviroc is an important HIV medicine, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.

Oregon grape is a shrub whose root contains berberine and related compounds. The strongest (though still modest) evidence is for topical creams that may slightly ease psoriasis; evidence for other uses is limited. What Is Maraviroc Used For?

Brand names: Celsentri, Selzentry

Maraviroc treats a specific type of HIV-1 infection called CCR5-tropic HIV-1. It is always used alongside other antiretroviral (anti-HIV) medicines — never alone. A special test called a tropism assay must be done before starting treatment to confirm you have the right type of HIV.

Selzentry (the brand-name oral solution and tablet) is approved for adults and pediatric patients weighing at least 2 kg. Generic maraviroc tablets are approved for adults and pediatric patients aged 2 years and older weighing at least 10 kg. Neither form is recommended for patients whose HIV is classified as dual/mixed-tropic or CXCR4-tropic.
