Panax Ginseng + Buspirone
Buspirone brand name: BuSpar.
Panax Ginseng has a moderate interaction with Buspirone. Theoretically, Panax ginseng might increase or decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Buspirone
Buspirone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Panax Ginseng interacts with.
Panax ginseng may affect the clearance of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4. One such drug is imatinib. Inhibition of CYP3A4 was believed to be responsible for a case of imatinib-induced hepatotoxicity. In contrast, Panax ginseng has been shown to increase the clearance of midazolam, another drug metabolized by CYP3A4. Clinical research shows that Panax ginseng can reduce midazolam area under the curve by 44%, maximum plasma concentration by 26%, and time to reach maximum plasma concentration by 29%. Midazolam metabolism was also increased in animals given Panax ginseng. Until more is known, use Panax ginseng cautiously in combination with CYP3A4 substrates.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the deal with buspirone (BuSpar) and Panax ginseng. Your body relies heavily on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break buspirone down, and this drug is famously sensitive to anything that nudges that enzyme. Buspirone is not a prodrug, so it works as-is. Ginseng's effect on CYP3A4 is a bit unpredictable: in some studies it sped the enzyme up, in others it slowed it down.
If ginseng speeds clearance, buspirone may be weaker and your anxiety relief could fade. If it slows clearance, levels can climb, bringing more dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, or headache. Honestly, the human evidence here is limited and partly theoretical, so don't panic, but do run this combo past your pharmacist or doctor first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Buspirone page
“I counsel genuine caution when supplements meet buspirone (BuSpar), the anxiety medication, because four of its 155 documented interactions are rated major. The bulk of the list, 121 ingredients, changes how your liver clears buspirone through the CYP3A4 enzyme, pushing its level up toward dizziness and drowsiness or down until the anx…”

About Buspirone
What Is Buspirone Used For?
Brand name: BuSpar
Buspirone tablets and capsules are used to manage anxiety disorders or to relieve anxiety symptoms in the short term. Its effectiveness has been shown in clinical trials focused on Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) — a condition marked by persistent, hard-to-control worry along with physical symptoms like muscle tension, restlessness, difficulty concentrating, and sleep problems.
Buspirone has also been shown to relieve anxiety in people who have mild depressive symptoms alongside their anxiety. Everyday stress and tension, on their own, generally do not require treatment with a medicine like buspirone.
