No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Pyrethrum and Rivaroxaban in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Pyrethrum and Rivaroxaban

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Rivaroxaban and Pyrethrum in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Pyrethrum at all — not against Rivaroxaban, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Pyrethrum safety at a glance

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

What Pyrethrum Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Rivaroxaban. It is the side-effect record for Pyrethrum on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add Pyrethrum, this list is the first place to look. One entry is worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • An allergic reaction Worth acting on Additional detail

“Pyrethrum has limited toxicity. The symptoms of overdose include headache, tinnitus, nausea, tingling of fingers and toes, respiratory disturbances, and other symptoms of neurotoxicity (18). The pyrethrum flower or derivatives of it might cause an allergic reaction in individuals sensitive to the Asteraceae/Compositae family.”

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Pyrethrum — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Rivaroxaban’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Rivaroxaban column appears here.

These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. This page covers Pyrethrum only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Rivaroxaban page lists 285 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Danshen (major), Grapefruit (major), Piracetam (major) and St. John's Wort (major).

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Rivaroxaban page

“Grapefruit is the interaction I would flag first for anyone taking rivaroxaban (Xarelto). It slows how the body clears this blood thinner, and higher levels mean more bleeding risk.”

About Pyrethrum

What is Pyrethrum?

  • Natural insect repellent
  • Killing fleas, lice, and other pests
  • Garden and household insecticide
  • Traditional use against parasites

Pyrethrum is a daisy-like flower whose extracts (called pyrethrins) are widely used as a natural insecticide for plants, pets, and lice. It is not a supplement meant to be taken by mouth, and there is no good evidence supporting any internal health use. If you use pyrethrum products, treat them as pesticides and follow label directions carefully.

Tanacetum cinerariifolium · Asteraceae · Dried flower heads · Insecticide powders, sprays, and extracts (pyrethrins); rarely used internally

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Pyrethrum is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Pyrethrum record says about it on its own.

Pyrethrum: dosing

There is no established or recommended internal dose for pyrethrum, and it should not be taken as a supplement. For insecticide, lice, or flea products, the correct amount depends entirely on the specific product.Always follow the directions on the product label exactly, and do not use more or more often than directed.

About Rivaroxaban

What Is Rivaroxaban Used For?

Brand name: Xarelto

Rivaroxaban tablets are used to reduce the risk of stroke in adults with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm), treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT, a blood clot in a vein) and pulmonary embolism (PE, a blood clot in the lungs), and lower the chances of these clots coming back. They also help prevent clots after hip or knee replacement surgery, protect hospitalized patients at risk for clots, and — in combination with aspirin — reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events in adults with coronary artery disease (CAD) or peripheral artery disease (PAD).

Rivaroxaban tablets are also approved for treating VTE (venous thromboembolism, blood clots in veins) and preventing recurrence in pediatric patients from birth to under 18 years, and for preventing clots in children aged 2 and older with congenital heart disease after the Fontan procedure. Rivaroxaban for oral suspension (available as Rivaroxaban Granule and Xarelto oral suspension) is specifically indicated for these two pediatric uses.
