What Is Abacavir Used For?

Brand name: Ziagen

Abacavir — available as tablets and oral solution under brand names including Ziagen — is used to treat HIV-1 (human immunodeficiency virus type 1) infection. It is always taken together with other antiretroviral (anti-HIV) medicines, never alone.

All approved formulations — Ziagen tablets, Ziagen oral solution, and generic abacavir tablets and oral solution — share this same indication: treatment of HIV-1 infection in combination with other antiretroviral agents, in adults and in children aged 3 months and older.
