Here's the simple version: both Salacia and vildagliptin (Galvus) work to lower blood sugar, just in different ways. Vildagliptin helps your body release more of its own insulin after meals, while Salacia may slow how fast carbs turn into sugar in your gut. Stack them together and the worry is that your blood sugar could dip a little too low, what we call hypoglycemia.

If that happens, you might feel shaky, sweaty, lightheaded, or unusually hungry or tired. To be clear, this concern is mostly theoretical, based on how each works rather than strong studies. Vildagliptin alone rarely causes lows, so the risk is modest. Still, before adding Salacia, check with your pharmacist or doctor and keep an eye on your readings.
