Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the simple version: both Salacia and your Repaglinide (Prandin) work to lower blood sugar, just in different ways. Repaglinide nudges your pancreas to put out more insulin right around mealtime, while Salacia may slow how fast carbs from your meal turn into sugar. Stack those two effects together and your blood sugar could dip lower than you expect, which is what we call hypoglycemia.

That can show up as shakiness, sweating, a fast heartbeat, dizziness, or feeling confused or unusually hungry. I'll be honest with you, this concern is mostly based on how these two work on paper, not strong head-to-head studies, so don't panic. Just please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before adding Salacia, and keep checking your sugars so nobody gets surprised.

Nearly everything on it also acts on blood sugar, usually pushing it lower still and raising the odds of a hypoglycemic crash, though a handful, niacin among them, pull the other way a…”
