Here's the simple version: both Salacia and dapagliflozin (Farxiga) work to lower your blood sugar, just in different ways. Salacia slows how fast carbs turn into sugar in your gut, while Farxiga makes your kidneys flush extra sugar out in your urine. Stack them together and the combined effect could push your numbers lower than expected.

If your sugar drops too far, you might feel shaky, sweaty, dizzy, lightheaded, or unusually tired. To be fair, this is more of a theoretical concern based on how these work, not something proven in big studies, and Farxiga alone rarely causes lows. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Salacia, especially if you also take insulin or a sulfonylurea.

What Is Dapagliflozin Used For?

Brand name: Farxiga

Dapagliflozin is used for several serious conditions. It helps improve blood sugar control in adults and children aged 10 and older with type 2 diabetes (alongside diet and exercise). It also reduces the risk of hospitalization for heart failure in adults with type 2 diabetes who have established cardiovascular disease or multiple cardiovascular risk factors.

Farxiga (dapagliflozin) is additionally approved to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death, hospitalization, and urgent visits due to heart failure in adults with heart failure — and to slow the progression of chronic kidney disease, including reducing the risk of kidney failure and cardiovascular death, in adults with chronic kidney disease at risk of getting worse.
