Here's the gist for your birth control pill (Yasmin, Gianvi, and similar combos of drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol). Senna is a stimulant laxative that speeds things along in your gut. When food and pills move through the intestine faster, your body may have less time to fully soak up the estrogen part of your pill. Some early, lower-quality research suggests senna can lower the amount of estrogen that gets absorbed.

This is mostly theoretical, and an occasional dose of senna for a day or two is unlikely to cause trouble. But heavy or daily use could, in theory, mean weaker hormone levels and less reliable protection. If you rely on this pill for contraception and use senna often, please check with your pharmacist or doctor about backup options.
