Here's the idea behind this pairing. Rituximab (Rixuan) calms down or wipes out certain immune cells, which is exactly how it treats conditions like lymphoma, CLL, and rheumatoid arthritis. Shark cartilage, on the other hand, has shown in lab dish studies that it might rev up the immune system. If that effect happened in real people, it could theoretically push against what rituximab is trying to do, meaning your treatment might not work as well.

I want to be honest with you: this concern is purely theoretical and has never actually been reported in humans. There's also little good evidence that shark cartilage helps anything. Still, since rituximab is serious therapy, please loop in your oncologist or pharmacist before adding any new supplement.

What Is Rituximab Injection Used For?

Brand name: Rituxan

Rituximab is used to treat a range of blood cancers and immune-driven diseases. In cancer care, it targets certain types of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma (NHL) and Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) — both in adults and, for some lymphomas, in children as young as 6 months old.

Beyond cancer, rituximab is also approved for moderately-to-severely active Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) in adults who haven't responded well to other treatments, as well as for two rare inflammatory blood vessel diseases — Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (GPA) and Microscopic Polyangiitis (MPA) — and for a serious skin blistering condition called Pemphigus Vulgaris (PV).
