Ciclesonide falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Shark Cartilage interacts with.

In vitro evidence suggests that shark cartilage might stimulate immune responses. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the idea behind this one: shark cartilage has shown, in lab dishes only, that it might rev up the immune system a little. Ciclesonide (your Alvesco or Omnaris) is an inhaled or nasal steroid that works by calming down immune-driven swelling in your airways. So in theory, a supplement that nudges the immune system the other way could work against what your steroid is trying to do.

I want to be honest, though: this is purely theoretical, based on test-tube studies, and it has never actually been seen in people. On top of that, ciclesonide is breathed in or sprayed in your nose, so very little reaches the rest of your body. A real-world clash is unlikely. Still, since shark cartilage has little proven benefit, I'd run it by your pharmacist before starting it.

What Is Ciclesonide Oral Inhalation Used For?

Brand names: Omnaris, Alvesco, Zetonna

Alvesco (ciclesonide) inhaler is approved for the maintenance treatment of asthma as a preventive therapy in adults and children 12 years of age and older. It is taken regularly to reduce airway inflammation and help prevent asthma symptoms — not to relieve a sudden attack.

Alvesco is not a rescue inhaler and should not be used to treat sudden wheezing or acute asthma episodes. It is also not approved for children under 12.
