Here's the simple version: meprobamate already works by slowing down your brain to ease anxiety, and skullcap is thought to nudge things in the same calming direction (possibly through GABA, one of the brain's natural settle-down signals). Stack the two and those effects can pile on top of each other. That could leave you feeling extra drowsy, foggy, dizzy, or unsteady on your feet.

I'll be honest with you though: this concern comes mostly from lab and animal work, not strong human studies, so it's more of a cautious heads-up than a proven problem. Skullcap also carries some liver concerns of its own. Before combining them, please check with your pharmacist or doctor, and don't drive or do anything risky until you know how the pair affects you.

What Is Meprobamate Used For?

Meprobamate tablets are used to manage anxiety disorders or to provide short-term relief of anxiety symptoms. It is intended for anxiety that rises to the level of a disorder — everyday stress and tension that most people experience generally do not require this type of medication.

Because its effectiveness beyond four months has not been well studied, meprobamate is typically used for a limited period of time, with a prescriber checking in regularly to decide whether continued use is still appropriate.
