Here's the simple version: both Skullcap and Aripiprazole (Abilify) can have a calming, settling effect on your brain. Skullcap's plant compounds may nudge your GABA system, the same system that helps your nervous system quiet down. Aripiprazole already can leave some people feeling drowsy, foggy, or slowed down. Stack the two and those effects could add up, so you might feel sleepier or have a harder time concentrating.

I'll be honest with you, this concern comes mostly from lab and animal research, not strong human studies, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Aripiprazole isn't a prodrug, so Skullcap isn't expected to change how it's activated. Still, before combining them, please check with your pharmacist or doctor, especially since Skullcap has been linked to possible liver concerns.

Aripiprazole treats several mental health conditions. It is approved for schizophrenia, acute manic and mixed episodes of Bipolar I Disorder, and as an add-on to antidepressants for Major Depressive Disorder.

It is also used for irritability linked to autistic disorder and for Tourette's disorder — in both children and adults depending on the condition.
