Here's something that may put your mind at ease. The concern on file is that slippery elm's sticky mucilage could coat the gut and slow down how oral medicines get absorbed. But articaine with epinephrine (Septocaine) isn't something you swallow. It's a local anesthetic your dentist injects into your gum or mouth to numb an area before dental work. Because it's delivered by needle, not by mouth, slippery elm in your stomach wouldn't really have a chance to interfere with it.

So this particular interaction is theoretical and based on how oral drugs absorb, and it doesn't fit an injected dental anesthetic. Still, it's always smart to mention any herbs or supplements you take to your dentist or pharmacist so they have the full picture.
