Here's the basic idea: slippery elm forms a slick, gel-like coating when it mixes with water. In theory, that gel can sit on the lining of your stomach and gut and slow down how well some swallowed medicines get absorbed. With Peri-Colace (casanthranol plus docusate), that could mean a little less of the laxative gets where it needs to work, so you might notice it being slower or weaker than usual.

I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical concern based on how the mucilage behaves, not on strong studies in people. A simple fix many folks use is spacing them out, taking slippery elm a couple of hours apart from your medicines. Run that timing by your pharmacist or doctor first.
