Spotted Geranium and Norgestrel

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Norgestrel and Spotted Geranium in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Spotted Geranium at all — not against Norgestrel, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Norgestrel page

“Norgestrel (Ovrette) is a progestin-only birth control pill, so the biggest danger on this page is not a strange side effect but a pill that quietly stops working. That risk makes this a page for genuine vigilance.”

About Spotted Geranium

What is Spotted Geranium?

  • Diarrhea
  • Mouth and throat sores
  • Bleeding and wound care
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Sore throat gargle

Spotted Geranium (Geranium maculatum), also called wild geranium or cranesbill, is a North American woodland plant whose tannin-rich root has long been used in folk medicine as an astringent for diarrhea, minor bleeding, and mouth or throat irritation. Modern human studies are very limited, so its effectiveness is largely unproven. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Spotted Geranium: dosing

There is no established standard dose for Spotted Geranium. Traditional use involved teas, tinctures, and gargles made from the dried root, but amounts varied widely and were not standardized. If you choose to use a commercial product, follow the directions on the label and do not exceed them.

About Progestin-Only (norethindrone) Oral Contraceptives

What Is Progestin-Only (norethindrone) Oral Contraceptives Used For?

Brand names: Ovrette, Orval 21

Norethindrone progestin-only pills — sometimes called the "mini-pill" — are used solely to prevent pregnancy. They do not contain estrogen, which makes them an option for women who cannot or prefer not to use estrogen-containing contraceptives.

When taken perfectly (same time every day, no missed pills), fewer than 1 in 100 women will become pregnant in the first year. With typical use, that number rises to about 9 in 100 — mostly because of late or skipped pills. Consistency is everything with this method.

Most-Reported Side Effects for Norgestrel
