Drug & supplement interaction

Sumbul + Digoxin

Digoxin brand names: Lanoxicaps, Lanoxin, Digitek.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Sumbul and Digoxin in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.

Sumbul and Digoxin

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Digoxin and Sumbul in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Sumbul at all — not against Digoxin, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

No Interaction Found — But Data Suggests Sumbul and Digoxin May Share a Side Effect

This is not an interaction. Neither one changes how your body handles the other, and nothing here says they react together. What our sources do show is that each has separately been linked to the effects below — so taking both can make those effects more likely to turn up, and harder to pin on one or the other if they do.

Lactation Possibly Unsafe

When sumbul leaves are used orally. After a breastfeeding parent consumed sumbul leaves, both the parent and breastfeeding infant experienced several episodes of vomiting two hours later, suggesting that sumbul leaf constituents may pass through breast milk. From our pharmacist’s overview on the Digoxin page

“Digoxin is a heart medicine with a narrow therapeutic index, meaning the gap between a helpful blood level and a harmful one is small, and few drugs give me more pause when supplements enter the picture. The most serious entries here are herbs that themselves contain digoxin-like cardiac glycosides, foxglove and lily-of-the-valley amon…”

About Sumbul

What is Sumbul?

Sumbul
  • Nervous tension and anxiety
  • Muscle spasms and cramps
  • Menstrual discomfort
  • Digestive upset
  • Traditional aphrodisiac

Sumbul is a musky-smelling root from a Ferula plant that has been used in traditional medicine mainly as a calming, antispasmodic remedy. There is very little modern scientific research to confirm any of its benefits, and its safety has not been well studied. Talk with a pharmacist or doctor before using it.

Ferula sumbul · Apiaceae · Root (rhizome) · Tincture, fluid extract, dried root, powder

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Sumbul is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Sumbul record says about it on its own.

Sumbul: dosing

There is no standardized, well-established dose for Sumbul. Historical doses were given as tinctures or fluid extracts, but those figures come from old herbal references and may not be safe or reliable today. If you choose to use a Sumbul product, follow the directions on the label and do not exceed them.

About Digoxin

What Is Digoxin Used For?

Brand names: Lanoxicaps, Lanoxin, Digitek

Digoxin treats mild to moderate heart failure in adults. It improves heart failure symptoms and exercise capacity, and it reduces heart failure-related hospitalizations and emergency care. It does not change survival.

It also helps control the resting heart rate in adults with chronic atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat). In children with heart failure, the tablet, oral solution and most injection products are used to increase the heart’s pumping strength (myocardial contractility). Some older injection labels list only the adult uses. Digoxin Oral Solution should not be used for multifocal atrial tachycardia.
