Tai Chi and Palifermin

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Palifermin and Tai Chi in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — research on Tai Chi alongside specific medications may be limited.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Tai Chi at all — not against Palifermin, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

Tai Chi is a practice rather than something you take. Ask your care team whether the type and intensity you plan to practice are appropriate for your health and treatment. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

What Palifermin’s Own FDA Label Lists

This is not an interaction — none of it involves Tai Chi. These are the most notable effects listed in the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Palifermin’s own FDA label, for the medication by itself. Knowing the drug’s own list makes it easier to work out the likely cause if something new turns up while you practice Tai Chi and take the medicine. One of them is worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • A higher chance of infection Worth acting on mentioned in 6.2% of FDA reports for Palifermin
  • Fever mentioned in 16.0% of FDA reports for Palifermin
  • Numbness or tingling
  • Joint pain
  • A skin rash mentioned in 10.1% of FDA reports for Palifermin
  • Itching
  • Swelling

From the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of the FDA label for Palifermin. Read the label on DailyMed › Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 388 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Palifermin that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Tai Chi’s licensed record lists no adverse effects our clinical vocabulary could match, so there is no Tai Chi side to compare — that is a limit of the record, not a statement that Tai Chi has no side effects.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Palifermin page

“Palifermin (Kepivance) is given by IV to prevent the severe mouth sores that intensive chemotherapy can cause, most often in patients heading into a stem cell transplant, and I read its interaction list with genuine caution because of how fragile those patients already are. All 17 supplements on file act on absorption through the gut,…”

Where does our data come from?
  • Source: the Natural Medicines (TRC Healthcare) clinical database — the evidence-graded professional reference for herb & supplement interactions. Tai Chi is not yet covered by that licensed database, so its write-up cites publicly available medical sources directly (see the references below).
  • Citation library: 103,510 references behind our interaction content, 65,311 of them resolved to verified PubMed/DOI sources. See every Tai Chi reference on this page ↓
  • Freshness: we automatically re-check this combination every week — this pair was last verified September 20, 2026. The Tai Chi and Palifermin records this page draws on were last updated June 22, 2026.
  • What “no known interaction” means: no documented interaction in the sources above — not a guarantee of safety. Supplements are studied far less than prescription drugs, so we say exactly what the evidence supports, and nothing more.

About Tai Chi

What is Tai Chi?

  • Balance and fall prevention
  • Stress and relaxation
  • Joint pain and arthritis
  • Heart and lung health
  • Better sleep
  • General fitness and flexibility

Tai Chi is a gentle, low-impact mind-body exercise that combines slow flowing movements, breathing, and focused attention. Research suggests it can improve balance, reduce falls, ease some chronic pain, and lower stress, and it is safe for most people. It is a practice, not a pill, so there are no doses or supplement risks to worry about.

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Tai Chi is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Tai Chi record says about it on its own.

Tai Chi: dosing

There is no "dose" for Tai Chi the way there is for a supplement. Many beginner programs involve sessions of about 30 to 60 minutes, done a few times a week, and benefits tend to grow with regular practice over weeks to months. The best approach is to follow your class or instructor's guidance and build up gradually at a pace that feels comfortable.

About Palifermin

What Is Palifermin Used For?

Brand name: Kepivance

Kepivance (palifermin) is used to decrease how often and how long severe oral mucositis — painful sores in the mouth and throat — occurs in patients with hematologic malignancies (blood cancers such as lymphoma, leukemia, or multiple myeloma) who are receiving high-dose, cell-damaging (myelotoxic) therapy before an autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplant (a transplant using the patient's own stem cells).

Kepivance is specifically indicated when the preparative chemotherapy or radiation regimen is expected to cause severe mucositis in most patients. It is not recommended for use with a high-dose melphalan conditioning regimen, and it was not found to be effective in the setting of allogeneic stem cell transplant (using a donor's cells). Its safety and effectiveness have not been established for patients with non-blood cancers (non-hematologic malignancies).
