Aspirin, Chlorpheniramine, Phenylpropanolamine falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Thyme interacts with.
In vitro and animal research suggests that thyme leaf extract has antiplatelet effects. However, this effect has not been observed in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
This combination product, Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold, contains aspirin, which already thins the blood a bit by keeping platelets from clumping together. The concern here is that thyme, in lab dishes and animal studies, has shown its own mild blood-thinning activity. Stacked on top of aspirin, the worry is that the two could add up and make bleeding or bruising a little more likely.
I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. The blood-thinning effect of thyme has not actually shown up in people, and the amount you'd get sprinkling thyme on dinner is very unlikely to matter. A concentrated supplement is a different story. If you notice easy bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding that won't stop, or you take other blood thinners, check in with your pharmacist or doctor first.

ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS

In vitro evidence suggests that thyme essential oil and specific essential oil constituents like thymohydroquinone and carvacrol can inhibit acetylcholinesterase (AChE). However, this effect has not been observed in humans.

Here's the short version on combining thyme with this combo cold product (which contains the antihistamine chlorpheniramine, the pain reliever aspirin, and the decongestant phenylpropanolamine). The concern is purely theoretical and comes from lab dish studies, not from people. In those studies, compounds in thyme essential oil (like carvacrol and thymohydroquinone) blocked an enzyme called acetylcholinesterase. In plain terms, that could very slightly oppose the drying, anticholinergic action of chlorpheniramine.
So if anything, thyme might nudge down the antihistamine effect a touch, not boost side effects. Honestly, this has never been shown in humans, and the small amount of thyme in food or tea won't matter. Concentrated essential oil is a different story, so it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist if you use it regularly.
