Tonka bean comes from the seed of a South American tree and is prized for its sweet, vanilla-like aroma in perfumes and cooking. It contains coumarin, which can be toxic to the liver and is restricted in food in many countries, so it is not recommended as a health supplement. About Posaconazole

What Is Posaconazole Used For?

Brand name: Noxafil

Posaconazole is used to treat invasive aspergillosis (a serious mold infection that can spread through the body) in adults and certain pediatric patients, depending on the formulation and weight. It is also used to treat oropharyngeal candidiasis (OPC) — a yeast infection of the mouth and throat, including cases that have not responded to itraconazole and/or fluconazole — and this use is specific to the oral suspension in patients aged 13 and older.

Posaconazole is also used for prophylaxis (prevention) of invasive Aspergillus and Candida infections in people at high risk because their immune systems are severely compromised — such as stem cell transplant recipients with graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) or people with blood cancers who have low white blood cell counts from chemotherapy. The specific formulation approved for prevention varies by age and weight.
