Tribulus and Albiglutide

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

ANTIDIABETES DRUGS

Why this applies to Albiglutide

Albiglutide falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Tribulus interacts with.

Taking tribulus with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Clinical research shows that Tribulus can lower blood glucose levels in adults with type 2 diabetes who are taking antidiabetes medications.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the thing to keep an eye on if you're pairing Tribulus with your Albiglutide (Tanzeum): both can nudge your blood sugar in the same direction, downward. Albiglutide already works hard to lower your glucose, and some research suggests Tribulus may add a little extra blood-sugar-lowering on top of that. Stacked together, you could land lower than intended.

If your sugar dips too far, you might feel shaky, sweaty, dizzy, irritable, or suddenly very hungry. The evidence here is on the weaker side, but the concern is real enough that I'd check your glucose more closely and chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Tribulus, rather than starting it on your own. Don't change your Albiglutide without their okay.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Albiglutide page

“People injecting albiglutide (Tanzeum) once a week for type 2 diabetes are often the same people eyeing supplements marketed for blood sugar, and that overlap is exactly where this list calls for real vigilance. Every one of the 239 ingredients on file touches glucose control in some way, most by adding to albiglutide's glucose-lowerin…”

About Tribulus

What is Tribulus?

Tribulus
  • Low libido and sexual function
  • Athletic performance and muscle building
  • Testosterone support
  • Male and female fertility
  • General 'vitality' or wellness

Tribulus is a plant supplement most often marketed to boost libido, testosterone, and athletic performance, but the human evidence behind these claims is weak and inconsistent. It is generally well tolerated by healthy adults in the short term, but it should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding and discussed with your pharmacist or doctor before use.
