Lurbinectedin falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Vitamin A interacts with.

Theoretically, taking high doses of vitamin A in combination with other potentially hepatotoxic drugs might increase the risk of liver disease.
The tolerable upper intake level (UL) is the highest level of intake that is likely to pose no risk of adverse effects. Doses of vitamin A above the UL can cause hepatotoxicity, ranging from elevated liver enzymes to liver failure.

Here's the simple version: this isn't about vitamin A changing how your body processes lurbinectedin (Zepzelca). Instead, it's about two things that can each be hard on the liver landing at the same time. Lurbinectedin can raise liver enzymes and stress the liver, and high-dose vitamin A can do the same. Stacking them together might, in theory, add to that strain.

I want to be honest about the evidence, though. This concern is based on expert opinion, not solid studies, so it's more of a caution than a proven problem. Everyday food amounts and a normal multivitamin are very unlikely to matter. The bigger worry is concentrated, high-dose vitamin A supplements above the safe upper limit. Since you're on cancer treatment, please run any supplement past your oncologist or pharmacist first.

What Is Lurbinectedin Injection Used For?

Brand name: Zepzelca

Zepzelca (lurbinectedin) injection is approved for adults with small cell lung cancer (SCLC) in two settings. First, Zepzelca is used in combination with atezolizumab (or atezolizumab and hyaluronidase-tqjs) as maintenance treatment for extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC) in patients whose disease did not progress after initial treatment with those same immunotherapy drugs plus carboplatin and etoposide.

Second, Zepzelca is approved as a single agent for adults with metastatic small cell lung cancer whose cancer has worsened during or after platinum-based chemotherapy. This second use was granted accelerated approval based on tumor response rates, and continued approval depends on results from confirmatory clinical trials.
