Wasabi and Zolpidem Tartrate

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Zolpidem Tartrate and Wasabi in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Wasabi safety at a glance

Wasabi overall Use caution Generally safe as a food, but supplement-strength doses are not well studied in people.
Pregnancy Use caution Food amounts are likely fine, but avoid concentrated supplements due to a lack of safety data.
Breastfeeding Use caution Food amounts are likely fine, but supplement doses have not been studied, so caution is best.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Zolpidem Tartrate

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Zolpidem Tartrate is filed under 4 classifications — including cns depressants, cytochrome p450 3a4 (cyp3a4) substrates, oral drugs. Wasabi has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs (moderate) — and none of Zolpidem Tartrate’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

What Wasabi Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Zolpidem Tartrate. It is the side-effect record for Wasabi on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add Wasabi, this list is the first place to look. One entry is worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Wasabi — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Zolpidem Tartrate’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Zolpidem Tartrate column appears here.

How to take them

Some Zolpidem Tartrate Products Have a Food Rule — Wasabi Should Not Break It

At least one FDA label for a product containing Zolpidem Tartrate says to take it with food. If you take Wasabi on an empty stomach out of habit, keep them separate — and take Zolpidem Tartrate with a meal where the label says to.

This may not be true of your version. Food instructions belong to the product, not the ingredient: two Zolpidem Tartrate products can carry different directions, and extended-release forms often differ from immediate-release ones. The label we read is quoted below — check the directions on your own box or bottle, or ask your pharmacist, for how to take the exact product you were given.

Administration The effect of Zolpidem Tartrate Tablets may be slowed by ingestion with or immediately after a meal.

From the Dosage and Administration section of the FDA label we read for Zolpidem Tartrate — where that label names a specific product, the instruction is that product's. See the Zolpidem Tartrate drug page ›

A food rule is not an interaction — it is about how much of the medicine you absorb. The directions that came with your own product, and your pharmacist, outrank anything on this page.

About Wasabi

What is Wasabi?

Wasabi
  • Flavoring for sushi and other foods
  • Antimicrobial support
  • Anti-inflammatory support
  • Antioxidant support
  • General immune support

Wasabi is best known as the pungent green condiment served with sushi, made from a Japanese plant in the cabbage family. Its natural compounds (isothiocyanates) show antimicrobial and antioxidant activity in lab studies, but there is very little human research to support taking it as a supplement. As a food it is generally safe; as a concentrated supplement, talk with your pharmacist or doctor first.

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Wasabi is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Wasabi record says about it on its own.
