CHLORZOXAZONE (Parafon Forte, Paraflex)
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's what's going on with this combo. Your medicine pairs acetaminophen with chlorzoxazone, a muscle relaxer. Watercress contains compounds that slow down the liver enzyme (CYP2E1) that normally clears chlorzoxazone. In a small human study, just 50 grams of watercress raised chlorzoxazone levels by about 56% and made it stick around longer. Chlorzoxazone is not a prodrug, so slowing its breakdown means more of it builds up in your body.
Practically, that could mean stronger drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, or an upset stomach from the chlorzoxazone part. A normal serving of watercress in a salad probably isn't a big deal for most folks, but concentrated extracts are another story. If you use watercress supplements regularly, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first.
