PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS
Why this applies to Chlorpheniramine, Phenylephrine
Chlorpheniramine, Phenylephrine falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Wild Carrot interacts with.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the gist with Wild Carrot and your chlorpheniramine/phenylephrine combo (an antihistamine plus a decongestant). Wild carrot may make your skin a bit more sensitive to sunlight, and some medicines can do the same thing. Put them together and, in theory, you could sunburn more easily or notice a rash on sun-exposed skin. This isn't a deep chemical clash that changes how your medicine works, so it shouldn't affect the usual things you'd expect, like drowsiness, dry mouth, or a faster heartbeat.
I'll be honest: this is a theoretical concern based on how these compounds behave, not strong human proof. If you're using both, just be smart with sun protection (sunscreen, hat, shade) and check with your pharmacist or doctor if you have questions.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Chlorpheniramine, Phenylephrine page
“A medicine that stimulates the heart and dries the body doesn't leave much room for supplements pulling the same way, and that describes chlorpheniramine, phenylephrine (Histatab Plus, Ed A Hist, Rynatan) well. Dozens of stimulant herbs, everyday caffeine sources among them, add to the decongestant's strain on blood pressure and heart…”

About Wild Carrot
What is Wild Carrot?
- Urinary and bladder complaints
- Digestive upset and gas
- Menstrual support
- Supporting milk production
- Mild diuretic (water pill) effect
Wild carrot is a traditional herb (the wild ancestor of the garden carrot) used mostly for urinary, digestive, and menstrual complaints. High-quality human studies are lacking, so its benefits are unproven, and it should be avoided in pregnancy because of traditional use to affect the uterus. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it.
