Anagrelide falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Xanthan Gum interacts with.

Theoretically, xanthan gum can alter the absorption of oral drugs due to its fiber qualities. Xanthan gum slows gastric emptying and has been used to control the release of drugs in tablet formulations. To avoid any alterations in drug absorption, xanthan gum should be taken 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the gist with anagrelide (Agrylin) and xanthan gum. Xanthan gum is a soluble fiber that turns into a gel in your gut and slows how fast things leave your stomach. In theory, that gel could change how much anagrelide your body absorbs, or how quickly it gets in. This idea comes from pharmacology reasoning, not from real-world reports, so I'd file it under possible but unproven.

Since anagrelide lowers your platelet count, a small dip in absorption could in theory make it work a touch less, while faster absorption might add side effects like headache, a racing heartbeat, or fluid retention. To stay safe, simply take your anagrelide first and wait 30 to 60 minutes before any xanthan gum supplement. Food amounts are unlikely to matter. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

What Is Anagrelide Used For?

Brand name: Agrylin

Anagrelide — sold as Agrylin and as generic anagrelide capsules — is used to treat thrombocythemia secondary to myeloproliferative neoplasms. That means it's prescribed when a bone marrow disorder causes the body to produce too many platelets, raising the risk of dangerous blood clots.

By bringing platelet counts down to a safer range, anagrelide also helps reduce related symptoms, including bleeding and clotting events (thrombo-hemorrhagic events).
