Mirabegron falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Xanthan Gum interacts with.

Theoretically, xanthan gum can alter the absorption of oral drugs due to its fiber qualities. Xanthan gum slows gastric emptying and has been used to control the release of drugs in tablet formulations. To avoid any alterations in drug absorption, xanthan gum should be taken 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with Myrbetriq (mirabegron) and xanthan gum. Because xanthan gum is a soluble fiber that turns into a gel in your stomach, it can slow how quickly food and pills move through your gut. In theory, that gel could trap a little of your mirabegron or slow down how much your body soaks up, which might make the medicine work slightly less well for your overactive bladder symptoms.

I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical concern based on how fiber behaves, not something proven to cause real problems with this drug. The simple fix, if you use concentrated xanthan gum on purpose, is to take your mirabegron first and wait about 30 to 60 minutes before the fiber. Food amounts are unlikely to matter. When in doubt, check with your pharmacist.

What Is Mirabegron Used For?

Brand name: Myrbetriq

Mirabegron extended-release tablets treat overactive bladder (OAB) in adults — specifically the symptoms of urge urinary incontinence (sudden, urgent leaks), urgency, and frequent urination. They can be used alone or, in the case of Myrbetriq tablets, combined with solifenacin succinate for OAB.

Mirabegron extended-release tablets also treat neurogenic detrusor overactivity (NDO) — a bladder control problem caused by nerve damage — in children aged 3 and older who weigh 35 kg or more. Myrbetriq extended-release oral suspension (granules) treats NDO in children aged 3 and older regardless of weight, including those under 35 kg.
