Oxaprozin falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Xanthan Gum interacts with.

Theoretically, xanthan gum can alter the absorption of oral drugs due to its fiber qualities. Xanthan gum slows gastric emptying and has been used to control the release of drugs in tablet formulations. To avoid any alterations in drug absorption, xanthan gum should be taken 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the simple version: xanthan gum is a soluble fiber that turns into a thick gel in your stomach. That gel can slow how fast things empty out of your stomach, which in theory could slow down how quickly your body soaks up oxaprozin (Daypro). Oxaprozin is an active NSAID, not a prodrug, so it works as-is once absorbed. This isn't about making it stronger or weaker overall, just possibly delaying when it kicks in.

Honestly, this is a very minor, theory-based concern. The everyday food amounts of xanthan gum are unlikely to matter. If you use larger thickener doses, a good habit is to take your oxaprozin first and wait about 30 to 60 minutes before the xanthan gum. Check with your pharmacist if you're unsure.

Oxaprozin treats the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis — reducing joint pain, swelling, and stiffness. These uses are shared across available oral formulations, including Coxanto capsules, Oxaprozin capsules, and Oxaprozin tablets (including Daypro).

Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis dosing for children ages 6 to 16 is weight-based and has been studied with both the capsule and tablet formulations.
