Yellow Toadflax and Rivaroxaban

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Rivaroxaban and Yellow Toadflax in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Yellow Toadflax at all — not against Rivaroxaban, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

What Rivaroxaban’s Own FDA Label Lists

This is not an interaction — none of it involves Yellow Toadflax. These are the most notable effects listed in the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Rivaroxaban’s own FDA label, for the medication by itself. Knowing the drug’s own list makes it easier to work out the likely cause if something new turns up while you take both. 5 of them are worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • Bleeding in the gut Worth acting on mentioned in 10.5% of FDA reports for Rivaroxaban
  • Bleeding or bruising Worth acting on mentioned in 17.6% of FDA reports for Rivaroxaban
  • A stroke or mini-stroke Worth acting on

From the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of the FDA label for Rivaroxaban. Read the label on DailyMed › Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 205,037 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Rivaroxaban that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Yellow Toadflax’s licensed record lists no adverse effects our clinical vocabulary could match, so there is no Yellow Toadflax side to compare — that is a limit of the record, not a statement that Yellow Toadflax has no side effects.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Rivaroxaban page

“Grapefruit is the interaction I would flag first for anyone taking rivaroxaban (Xarelto). It slows how the body clears this blood thinner, and higher levels mean more bleeding risk.”

About Yellow Toadflax

What is Yellow Toadflax?

  • Hemorrhoids and skin irritation
  • Mild constipation
  • Fluid retention (as a folk diuretic)
  • Liver and gallbladder complaints (traditional)
  • Minor wounds and inflammation (topical)

Yellow toadflax is a traditional folk remedy used mostly for hemorrhoids, skin problems, and as a mild laxative or diuretic, but there is very little modern human research to confirm any of these uses. Because its safety has not been well studied, it is best used cautiously, avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding, and discussed with a pharmacist or doctor first.

Linaria vulgaris · Plantaginaceae · Aerial parts (flowering tops, leaves, and stems) · Tea, tincture, dried herb, ointment or salve, poultice

About Rivaroxaban

What Is Rivaroxaban Used For?

Brand name: Xarelto

Rivaroxaban tablets are used to reduce the risk of stroke in adults with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm), treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT, a blood clot in a vein) and pulmonary embolism (PE, a blood clot in the lungs), and lower the chances of these clots coming back. They also help prevent clots after hip or knee replacement surgery, protect hospitalized patients at risk for clots, and — in combination with aspirin — reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events in adults with coronary artery disease (CAD) or peripheral artery disease (PAD).

Rivaroxaban tablets are also approved for treating VTE (venous thromboembolism, blood clots in veins) and preventing recurrence in pediatric patients from birth to under 18 years, and for preventing clots in children aged 2 and older with congenital heart disease after the Fontan procedure. Rivaroxaban for oral suspension (available as Rivaroxaban Granule and Xarelto oral suspension) is specifically indicated for these two pediatric uses.
