Zeaxanthin and Abemaciclib

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Abemaciclib and Zeaxanthin in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Abemaciclib

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Abemaciclib is filed under 2 classifications — cytochrome p450 3a4 (cyp3a4) substrates, oral drugs. Zeaxanthin has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being antidiabetes drugs (moderate) — and none of Abemaciclib’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What Abemaciclib Is Prescribed For, and What Zeaxanthin Has Been Studied For

These two come up together because they touch the same health topic — not because they do the same job. Abemaciclib is a prescription medicine with approved uses on its FDA label. Zeaxanthin is a supplement: what follows is what researchers have looked at it for, and how strong that evidence is.

Abemaciclib is prescribed for: Verzenio (abemaciclib) is used to treat HR-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer in adults. For early breast cancer at high risk of recurrence, Verzenio is taken alongside endocrine therapy (tamoxifen or an aromatase inhibitor) after surgery to help prevent the cancer from coming back. For advanced or metastatic breast cancer (cancer that has spread), Verzenio can be used in combination with an aromatase inhibitor as a first hormonal treatment, in combination with fulvestrant after the cancer has progressed on endocrine therapy, or alone after prior endocrine therapy and chemotherapy have stopped working.

Zeaxanthin has been studied for:

    Zeaxanthin for breast cancer

It is unclear if oral zeaxanthin is beneficial for breast cancer prevention.

Effectiveness ratings and the research summaries above are the verbatim record from the Natural Medicines database, which grades evidence from “Effective” down to “Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate”. A rating below the top of that scale means researchers have looked at it — not that it works, and never that it can stand in for a prescribed medicine. Do not stop or replace Abemaciclib on your own; if you are taking Zeaxanthin for the same health topic, tell your prescriber, especially if the medicine is being adjusted to a target.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Abemaciclib page

“A daily pill for a common form of advanced breast cancer, abemaciclib (Verzenio) only helps when its blood level stays steady, so this list of 138 supplements deserves genuine care. Nearly all of them act on CYP3A4, the liver enzyme that clears abemaciclib, meaning a supplement can push its level up and intensify side effects, or drag…”

About Zeaxanthin

What is Zeaxanthin?

Zeaxanthin
  • Eye and macular health
  • Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
  • Protection from blue light
  • General antioxidant support
  • Cataract risk reduction

Zeaxanthin is a carotenoid pigment that, along with lutein, concentrates in the macula of the eye and may help support long-term eye health. The strongest evidence relates to slowing progression of advanced age-related macular degeneration when combined with other nutrients, while many other uses remain unproven. It is generally well tolerated, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before starting any supplement.

Pigment found in leafy greens, corn, eggs, and other colorful plants and foods · Capsules, softgels, tablets (often combined with lutein), and as part of multivitamin or eye-health formulas

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Zeaxanthin is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Zeaxanthin record says about it on its own.

Zeaxanthin: dosing

There is no official, universally established dose of zeaxanthin. In eye-health research, it has typically been studied as part of a nutrient combination that includes lutein, often at much smaller amounts than lutein.Because products vary widely, the best approach is to follow the directions on the product label. Zeaxanthin is frequently combined with lutein, so check the full ingredient list.
